Thunderbird Logo The Mozilla developers have released version 3.0.5 of their open source Thunderbird email and news client. The latest maintenance update to the 3.0.x branch addresses more than 60 bugs and includes several improvements over the previous release.

Thunderbird 3.0.5 includes performance improvements for message indexing and accessing profiles stored on a network. Other changes include a number of user interface fixes and updates to the unread email notification on Mac OS X systems. The developers advise all users to update to the latest release.

The next major release of Thunderbird, version 3.1, is based on the Gecko 1.9.2 platform and features, for example, the addition of a new quick filter toolbar and Saved Files Manager, Personas theme support and an updated migration assistant. Thunderbird 3.1 is due later this month.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and in the change log. Thunderbird 3.0.5 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Thunderbird binaries are released under the Mozilla Thunderbird End-User Software License Agreement and the source code is released under disjunctive tri-licensing that includes the Mozilla Public Licence, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1.
