Mozilla has announced the release of version 2.0 beta 2 of their SeaMonkey "all-in-one internet application suite", completing the planned feature set. The successor to the old Netscape Communicator and Mozilla Application suites includes a web browser with advanced email and newsgroup support, an IRC chat client and HTML editing support. The SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 2 development release is based on the same browser core as Firefox 3.5.3 and includes several new features.

The beta 2 release now features the ability to open individual messages, folders and accounts in tabs inside the Mail & Newsgroups window. In addition to a large number of small changes in the preview release, users can now re-open closed browser windows using the "Undo Close Window" option and several improvements have been made to the recently rewritten download manager. The developers note that the SeaMonkey Interface for Library Extensions (SMILE) has been introduced for extension developers and that the default theme on Mac OS X has been updated to better fit the look of Leopard and Snow Leopard.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and change log. SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 2 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. As SeaMonkey 2.0 is based on the 3.5.x branch of Firefox, it no longer supports Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). The final release of SeaMonkey 2.0 is expected to be available next month.

SeaMonkey binaries are released under the Mozilla SeaMonkey End-User Software License Agreement and the source code is released under disjunctive tri-licensing that includes the Mozilla Public Licence, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1.
