Mozilla has released version 1.1 of Firefox for Mobile, also known as "Fennec", for Nokia's N900 smartphones running the open source Maemo mobile operating system. Firefox for Nokia N900 is built on the same browser engine as Firefox 3.6 and includes several elements from its desktop counterpart.

According to the developers, the latest version of the mobile web browser includes a number of changes based on user feedback aimed at improving the overall browsing experience. Firefox 1.1 for Nokia N900 now allows users to browse in either landscape or portrait mode, zoom in and out using the N900's volume rocker, and a new Context Menu lets users open a new tab and save images by long tapping and holding a link.

The inclusion of a "Save to PDF" option in the Site Menu gives users the option to save their content for quick access or offline viewing. Other notable improvements include the addition of a Personalized Start page, auto-update for add-ons, an "Add Search Engine" option for new search engines and several auto-complete updates that make it easier to fill out forms.

More details about the release, including a list of known issues, can be found in the release notes. Nokia N900 users can download the latest Firefox 1.1 release by visiting firefox.com/m. The release notes also list downloadable versions of Firefox for Mobile on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux which allow users to evaluate the browser without using a Nokia N900.
