Mozilla posts Windows Firefox 4.0 mock-ups
The Mozilla developers have posted screen shot mock-ups of what version 4.0 of Firefox for Windows may look like. The web page advises that the browser mock-ups are not final and are only intended for brainstorming.

The new Tabs-on-Top concept replaces the title bar at the top of the window and the developers considered it likely to be a "contentious" concept, perhaps due to the similarity with Google's Chrome web browser. The proposed change saves vertical space but, according to the developers, could initially confuse some existing users.

Other possible changes include the addition of a new Bookmarks widget to replace the Bookmarks menu and toolbar. The developers note that, should they choose to add this, an option to turn on the Bookmarks menu and tool bar would remain. A new proposed "Combo Stop/Refresh/Go Button" could also be included on the right side of the address bar (also called the "Awesome Bar") that would be a single button combining the start, stop and reload functions.
Recently, Mozilla also posted similar designs for Firefox 3.7. Current proposals include, for example, a new Glass effect for Windows Vista and Windows 7 and changes to the Tools and Bookmark bar.
The developers welcome and encourage user feedback via the Firefox 4.0 Windows Theme Mock-up Discussion page.
