Mozilla had intended that yesterday's release of Firefox 2.0.19 would be the last security update for the older browser. The 2.0.19 update applied fixes for the same issues that yesterday's Firefox 3.0.5 update fixed. However according to Mike Beltzner, director of Firefox, it now appears that a "clerical error" meant that the Windows version of Firefox 2.0.19 had only nine of the ten patches applied. Beltzner didn't detail which patch was omitted, but said the problem occurred in the packaging and signing process, which was why it does not affect other platforms.

The result of this error means that Firefox 2.0.20 will be shipped for at least Windows "as soon as possible" according to the December 17th status meeting report. Although Mozilla's advice to all users is still to upgrade to Firefox 3 as soon as possible, especially as Firefox 2.0.19 lacks phishing protection.
