Mozilla announces Firefox Mobile add-on challenge
The Mozilla Foundation has announced the launch of a new Firefox Mobile competition for add-on developers. The Mobile Add-on Challenge is aimed at encouraging developers to create innovative, compatible Firefox mobile add-ons.
A blog post by Caitlin Looney, Mozilla Mobile Product Marketing Manager, suggests that add-ons that hook into the device address book or camera, or use a pagemod to add functionality to a web app, using device APIs such as js-ctypes, are of particular interest. A panel of judges consisting of Mozilla Mobile and Add-ons team members will choose the top ten "most compatible" add-on winners.
In addition to an official Firefox mobile phone cover and launch T-shirt, each winner will receive a new Nokia N900 running the Maemo open source operating system. Alternatively, winners can select an item of merchandise from the Mozilla Store.
More details about the add-on challenge can be found in the Challenge Rules. All mobile add-on entries must be submitted by Monday, the 12th of April, 2010.
