Mozilla adopts two Firefox cubs
Mozilla has announced that it has adopted two female Firefox (red panda) cubs. Born at the Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee on the 14th of June, 2010, the cubs are the foundation's latest members, referred to as Mozillians, and can be viewed via a live online video stream at firefoxlive.mozilla.org. However, at the time of this posting, the Live Stream is Off-Air.
According to a post on the Mozilla Blog by Mozilla Creative Director John Slater, the red pandas, which are endangered animals, are being filmed by six cameras at various angles. Slater says that they're "especially active and entertaining after they’ve been fed – usually around 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. EST".
The cubs have yet to be named and are currently referred to as 'cub 1' and 'cub 2'. Visitors to the site can submit suggestions for names on the Firefox Live site. Users that download the open source Firefox web browser from the site will help the cubs to get their next treat, a new jungle gym.
Established more than 10 years ago, the Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to "promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the Web".
