Mono 2.0 adds LINQ and C# 3.0 support

Mono 2.0, the open source implementation of Microsoft's closed source .NET framework has been released. Mono 2.0, unlike .NET, runs on Unix, Mac OS X and other non-Windows platforms. Version 2.0 has C# 3.0 and LINQ (Language Integrated Query) built into the Mono framework, bringing Mono closer to the current state of .NET 3.5.

Mono 2.0 does not have WCF (Windows Communication Framework), Windows Workflow Fountation (WWF) or Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and only the former is currently on the roadmap for Mono 3.0, which is planned for 2010. Mono 2.0 has been announced a year and a half after it was originally planned, with C# 3.0 and LINQ both extending the schedule.

Details of the changes in Mono 2.0 are available in the release notes, listing the implemented Microsoft APIs, Mono's own APIs and third party APIs available. It also details which open source licenses cover which components of Mono; the MIT X11 licence, GPL and LGPL licences are used for different parts of the project.
