Milestone 4 releases for Eclipse 3.7 and Eclipse 4.1
The Eclipse developers have presented the fourth milestones for versions 3.7 and 4.1 of their integrated development environment (IDE). The Eclipse 3.7 milestone is currently the basis of the next collective release for various Eclipse projects, code named "Indigo". While version 4.0, which was released last summer, was still regarded an "early adopter" release, the developers say that version 4.1 is intended for a wider audience.
Among the current milestone's OSGi advances are Equinox updates for the OSGi R4.3 specification and memory usage improvements when loading the p2 repositories. On a platform level, Eclipse now supports multiple build configurations per project. A new API is to define the references between configurations and build chosen configurations and their references. The Java Development Tools (JDT) have been given new quick assists and the API Analysis Builder in the Plug-in Development Environment (PDE) now supports the scanning of "API use scan" reports.
The latest stable release of Eclipse is version 3.6.1 from the end of September. Eclipse is released under the Eclipse Foundation Software User Agreement.
