OpenSUSE logo The openSUSE developers have released the second milestone in the development of openSUSE 11.2. The new version, which is one of a series of releases leading up to the full release in November, has had a substantial overhaul since the release of the first milestone. The distribution is now built with GCC 4.4 and uses the 2.6.30rc6 kernel.

The default file system has been switched to Ext4. The desktop sees an update to GNOME 2.26 and includes some of the preview packages from GNOME 2.27.1, while KDE is refreshed to KDE 4.3 beta 1. Firefox 3.5beta4, OpenOffice.org 3.1 and VirtualBox 2.2.2 are also included in the release. A detailed list of changes and a screen shot gallery which contains images of the new release are on the project's wiki. The software itself is available to download for 32 and 64 bit x86 systems as a DVD or LiveCD image.
