Microsoft vs Android Microsoft has announced it has made its third Android-related patent deal this week. Onkyo Corporation has signed a patent licencing deal and will pay Microsoft royalties for devices that use the open source Android operating system. Terms of the deal were, as usual, not disclosed. Onkyo makes a number of tablets such as the Tegra2-powered, Android-running SlatePad TA117 which was released in Japan at the start of this year.

Earlier this week, Microsoft had signed up General Dynamics Itronix and Velocity Micro to pay royalties on Microsoft intellectual property which Microsoft says is infringed by their use of the Android open source operating system. Microsoft's only additional comment was that the recent agreements were "evidence the momentum and success of our licensing program".
