Microsoft have committed to purchase $100 million worth of SUSE Linux support certificates from Novell. Microsoft distribute the certificates to their corporate customers who require Linux support alongside Microsoft product support. The agreement will go into effect from the first of November.

The agreement reaffirms the five year deal created in 2006, when Novell and Microsoft agreed to cooperate over Windows-Linux interoperability. The deal included a controversial patent agreement to protect Novell customers from possible claims by Microsoft, and the purchase of $240 million worth of support certificates, of which Novell has invoiced $157 million according to the announcement.
