Joomla Logo The Joomla! developers have announced that Microsoft has signed the Joomla! Contributor Agreement (JCA) and has begun contributing code. According to a blog post by Authentication Tools project for Joomla! developer Sam Moffatt, some of Microsoft's code is already present in the Joomla! 1.6 trunk. Moffatt says that "it's a big deal to have a major company contributing to the codebase", adding that, "the fact that it's Microsoft contributing to a GPL project is big news."

Joomla! is an open source content management system (CMS) platform that is released under the GNU General Public License. The latest stable release of Joomla! is version 1.5.16 from the 23rd of April, 2010, while the latest development release is Joomla! 1.6 Alpha 2.
