The recently announced Meteor JavaScript framework has been updated to version 0.3.3 and in the process changed its licence from GPL to MIT. The developers say that this will allow Meteor to be "part of a robust ecosystem", by "permitting a wide variety of use cases and environments". Meteor made a splash earlier this month with its ability to create automatically synchronised web applications. According to an email from the developers, they received a lot of feedback concerning the GPL licensing of Meteor. "We think it's vitally important that all these different use cases be easy and straightforward, and not carry restrictions on their use", they said, noting that "The MIT license offers all of that".

The 0.3.3 release also includes the first pull requests from the community for changes including support for a single API for making HTTP requests on either the client or server. The new API is designed for accessing REST endpoints easily. The developers have also put out a request for someone to create a blogging system using Meteor so that it can be "enshrined forever as the official blogging platform of blog.meteor.com, or at least until a better one comes out". Documentation on how to install Meteor is available at docs.meteor.com or from the project's GitHub repository.
