Mentor Graphics joins the Linux Foundation

The Linux Foundation has announced that Mentor Graphics has become its newest member. Founded in 1981, Oregon-based Mentor Graphics is an embedded design specialist that supplies products and services that assist in the embedded design of chips and boards, as well as embedded operating systems, applications and drivers.

According to the Foundation, Mentor Graphics will contribute important expertise to the advancement of embedded products running Linux. Discussing the announcement, Mentor Graphics Embedded Software Division General Manager Glenn Perry said, "The promise of embedded Linux is being realized and developers are seeking tools and resources to support their work with this OS," adding that, "This is in perfect alignment with our vision and our enabling technologies and services. The Linux Foundation is increasing its focus on embedded projects to help accelerate the Linux platform in this area."

The Linux Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the task of promoting the growth of Linux. Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, is himself sponsored by the foundation.
