Maven maker Sonatype gets new CEO and $11.6M funding

Sonatype, the start-up founded by the original author of the open source Maven build and project management software, has announced that it has a new CEO and is receiving $11.6M funding. Maven is an Apache Software Foundation project which is supported by Sonatype.

The new CEO, Wayne Jackson, said the company was "perfectly positioned to deliver cost-effective software and cloud-based solutions" for software development. Jackson has previously been CEO at Sourcefire, provider of enterprise intrusion detection applications and co-founded Riverbed Technologies, a mobile infrastructure company, which was later sold for $1 Billion in 2000. Maven creator and CTO of Sonatype, Jason Van Zyl, said Jackson has the "experience in the open source world and a track record of success" which will provide Sonatype with the management leadership it needed to grow.

According to the company, around 26,000 organisations and 258,000 developers make use of the software distribution functionality of Maven Central, a cloud based repository developed by Sonatype. Sonatype also develops or contributes to Nexus (a Maven repository manager), m2eclipse (the Eclipse IDE optimised for Maven) and p2 (OSGi based provisioning for Eclipse).
