Brazilian programmer Alex Porto has released an extended IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for Arduino. With features such as a project manager, adjustable compiler options and syntax highlighting, MariaMole mainly targets experienced developers who find the normal Arduino IDE too basic. Porto says that he was motivated to undertake the development after being dissatisfied with existing Arduino extensions for Eclipse and other IDEs.

MariaMole requires the Arduino IDE to be installed and can import all of its included examples, sketches and libraries. For debugging, serial connections can be opened to establish direct communication with multiple Arduino boards – combined with the project manager, this allows programmers to develop code on more than one board without having to switch.

Version 0.4 of MariaMole is currently available for Windows only – Linux and Mac versions will only be released once Porto has a "good and stable" Windows version. As MariaMole is an open source project – released under a Creative Commons CC By-SA 3.0 licence and hosted on SourceForge – interested developers can contribute to its development.
