MapQuest to use OpenStreetMap
At this year's State of the Map conference, AOL subsidiary MapQuest has announced that in future it plans to make substantial use of open source cartographic material. It also presented open.mapquest.co.uk, the first web site to use data derived exclusively from the OpenStreetMap project.
MapQuest announced that it plans to spend $1 million expanding the amount of freely available map data in the USA via another AOL subsidiary, Patch. Patch collects geo-information in parts of the US through local participation in the same way as OpenStreetMap, and makes it available online.
