French Linux distributor Mandriva has announced the release of a new cross-platform, "real-time" education platform. Mandriva Class is designed to facilitate collaboration between teachers and students in a virtual classroom environment; the software supports both Windows and Linux, and is split into two editions, one for teachers and another for students.

According to Mandriva, the e-learning tool has an easy to use interface that allows students and teachers to share almost any kind of content and send each other messages in real time. Teachers can lock, unlock and turn off students' systems, share web pages and remotely control a student's machine, while students are only allowed to log into a teachers's classroom, and message the teacher or, in a public live chat, other users.

"With Mandriva Class we are opening new opportunities for hundreds of thousands of students worldwide who cannot always attend courses physically", said Marcos Polidoro, head of Mandriva's Education Center, adding that "Mandriva Class bridges the distance between the teacher and the students".

Further information about the software solution can be found in the Mandriva Class product sheetPDF. The Teacher Edition of Mandriva Class is priced at €50, while the Student Edition costs €25 per installed PC.
