Mandriva Logo Following a first alpha in mid-February, the Mandriva developers have issued a second alpha for Mandriva Linux 2011. This second alpha will be followed by two betas and a release candidate; the final version of Mandriva Linux 2011 is scheduled to arrive on 13 June 2011.

According to Mandriva Development Manager Eugeni Dodonov, the latest development preview is based on the 2.6.37.2 Linux kernel and features a simplified initial setup, as well as integration of the latest networkmanager-mdv plug-in. Other changes include the switch from SCIM to IBus for the input framework, more in-depth systemd integration and various package updates.

As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the release can be found in a post on the Mandriva Blog and on the 2011 Development wiki. At the time of this posting, the 2011 Alpha 2 page has yet to be updated. Mandriva Linux 2011 Alpha 2 is available to download from one of the project's mirrors. The latest stable release of Mandriva Linux is version 2010.2, an incremental security and stability update from December of last year.
