Mageia Beta 1 released
The first beta version of the Mandriva fork Mageia is available to download for 32-bit and 64-bit x86 platforms. Since the alpha version, the developers have worked on a new theme and included additional software in the package repositories. The developers plan to have an official release in June.
Mageia uses the 2.6.38.2 Linux kernel and KDE 4.6.1; GNOME 2.3.2 and LXDE are available as desktop environments. The development team hopes to receive feedback, especially on hardware detection and whether the upgrade from Mandriva 2010 works correctly. A how to report a bug page is available. Testers are also asked to let the developers know if they find any packages still missing from the repository. As a development release, Mageia 1 Beta 1 should not be used for production. Live CDs of the beta will be available on 7 April. Release notes are also available from the project's Wiki.
