Mageia Logo The Mageia project development team has published a release candidate for version 1.0 of its Mandriva Linux fork. According to the project roadmap, the first stable release is expected to arrive on 1 June.

Compared to Beta 2, the only changes listed for the release candidate are "bugfixes – lots of them!", "packages version updates" and "more packages in ISOs". The final development release of Mageia 1.0 is based on the 2.6.38 Linux kernel and features the latest KDE 4.6.3 desktop environment. Package updates include Firefox 4.0.1, GCC 4.5.2 and X.Org Server 1.10.1. The errata wiki page lists several issues with versions of VirtualBox prior to 4.0.x and with Radeon HD systems, as well as noting that the Adobe Flash player plug-in cannot be included in the official repositories; however, a workaround is provided.

As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they find.

More details about the final development version can be found in the official release announcement and in the release notes on the temporary Mageia wiki. The release candidate of Mageia 1 is available to download for 32- and 64-bit systems from the project's mirrors and an installation guide is provided.
