Almost two months after the release of the Maemo 5 Alpha SDK, Nokia has announced the release of the Maemo 5 Beta SDK. Maemo is the operating system that runs on Nokia's range of internet tablets (N800 and N810). The SDK is based on the next version of Maemo, code named "Fremantle". Nokia have not released any details of internet tablets which will run Maemo 5.

The APIs have been frozen in the Beta and it contains all of the information and tools developers will need to get their applications ready. Some of the APIs, which were also included in the Alpha release, allow developers to make applications location aware, give information on cities, trigger and control vibrations and allow programs to react to changes in screen orientation. New features in the Beta SDK include OMAP3 support, HSPA data connectivity, hardware based graphics acceleration and high definition camera support.

More details about the Maemo 5 Beta SDK can be found in the release notes and the change log. A draft of the Development Manual is also provided. A final release date for the SDK has yet to be announced.
