MIPS joins Android consortium
Processor manufacturer MIPS Technologies has joined the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), a consortium of around 47 companies headed by Google, involved in developing the Android mobile platform. MIPS has been working on porting Android to its processors for some time and published the source code for its port in early August. The MIPS port will now become an official component of Android. MIPS processors are frequently used in network devices and set-top boxes.
