Mark Hamilton, former Sun employee and now Vice President, HPC Sales Support, at Oracle, has assured users of the Lustre open source distributed file system, that Oracle plans to continue to invest in engineering, sales and support. Lustre provides the ability to create a file system that is distributed over thousands of nodes and that scales to support petabytes of storage. Further details of Lustre can be found on the project's wiki

Hamilton says "it's the same great people working together to make Lustre a success at Oracle" and that Oracle will honour all their support commitments and allow customers to renew their contracts when the time comes. The announcement, made in a blog posting promises a more detailed plan for Lustre to be announced by the end of March, before the start of the Lustre User Group 2010 Conference from April 14th to 16th.
