Initially introduced during the development of Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala", the Ubuntu developers have re-launched the One Hundred Paper Cuts project for the next major release of Ubuntu, code named "Lucid Lynx". The project will again focus on improving the user experience for the 10.04 LTS release by "identifying 100 small points of pain for users, or "paper cuts", and healing them". The project is lead by Canonical's Design and User Experience team. Its goal is to channel the necessary resources behind fixing the relatively small and easy to fix bugs, resources that would normally only be focussed on fixing larger issues.

Ubuntu 10.04 will also be a Long Term Support (LTS) version of the Debian-derived Linux distribution. The LTS versions of Ubuntu are supported for three years for the desktop releases and five years for server releases. The standard releases are supported for 18 months of updates for both the desktop and server versions.

More details about the project can be found on the PaperCut wiki and One Hundred Paper Cuts for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS can be found on the project's Launchpad page. Ubuntu users are invited to submit bugs for the project to work on by logging in to Launchpad and entering a bug report under the "hundredpapercuts" project. Lucid Lynx is expected to be released in April of 2010 with the first Alpha scheduled for the second week in December 2009.
