LucidWorks is the new name for Lucid Imagination, the company that launched in 2009 specialising in commercial support and consulting for the Apache enterprise search projects Lucene and Solr. The company has decided to rename itself after its commercial product branding, LucidWorks, as it found that customers were referring to the company by that name and, rather than redouble efforts around branding, they went with customers' perceptions.

LucidWorks has two product lines, LucidWorks Search, based around Lucene/Solr, and LucidWorks Big Data, which draws from Apache projects such as Hadoop, Zookeeper, Mahout, HBase and Lucene/Solr to provide a development platform for big data applications.

LucidWorks has also announced that, in September, it will be setting up a community site called SearchHub.org, which will be oriented at developers. It is planned that this will include a blog from Lucene/Solr committers; of the 35 committers on the project, nine work for LucidWorks. Other planned features include video tutorials, podcasts, a community forum, up-to-date information on Lucene/Solr, and a calendar of enterprise search related hackathons and meetups.
