Lucene.Net

Lucene.Net, the port of the Lucene search engine library to C# and .NET, has left the Apache incubator and is now a top-level project. The announcement on the project's blog says that the Apache board voted unanimously to accept the graduation resolution. The vote confirms that Lucene.Net is healthy and that the development and governance of the project follows the tenets of the "Apache way". The developers will now be moving the project's resources from the current incubator site to the main apache.org site.

Lucene.Net began as an independent project creating a line-by-line port of the Java-based Lucene project. Eventually, it entered the Apache Incubator in April 2006 and graduated as a sub-project of Lucene in October 2009. But then it ran into difficulty when the original leads stopped maintaining it; development stagnated in 2010 and forks appeared outside the Apache project.

The Lucene project management committee proposed that Lucene.Net return to the incubator at the start of 2011 with new committers and a plan to merge the branches. This plan was approved and since then, the incubating project has made three releases (2.9.2 in May 2011, 2.9.4 in November 2011 and 2.9.4g in February 2012). The developers are currently preparing a major update of 3.0.3, with a rebuilt community and new committers being added.
