LiLi logo Version 2.8.6 of LinuxLive USB Creator has been released. Also known as "LiLi", LinuxLive USB creator is an open source application for creating bootable LiveUSB drives by downloading and installing various Linux distributions.

The new version of the Windows-based tool adds support for an additional 20 distributions, including the recent Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" release, as well as Lubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu variants. Support for Clonezilla Live 1.2.10-14, SystemRescueCD 2.3.1, the GNOME, KDE and Xfce variants of Sabayon Linux 7, Citrix XenServer 6.0.0, IPFire 2.9 Core 52, the openSUSE 12.1 Beta and Knoppix 6.7.1 has also been added. The recognition system used to detect Ubuntu variants has been completely recoded.

Other changes include improved support for VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0, interface updates for netbook users, and the ability to download ISOs for some for commercial/proprietary systems direct from their web sites. The developers "strongly recommend" that existing users download and re-install this update of LiLi because of changes made to the underlying code.

More details about the update can be found in a post on the LinuxLive USB Creator blog and in the change log. Version 2.8.6 of LiLi is available to download for Windows 7, Vista and XP. LiLi source code is licensed under the GPLv3.
