LinuxCon NA 2011 programme announced

Linux Foundation Logo The Linux Foundation has published the programme for this year's LinuxCon North America conference. The 2011 event will take place from 17 to 19 August 2011 at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, Canada.

LinuxCon NA 2011 will host the official celebration for the 20th Anniversary of Linux. The conference will open with a keynote by Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin entitled "Imagine a World Without Linux", followed by a presentation on "The Challenges of the Next 20 Years of Linux" by Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst. The first day of the event will also include a panel discussion on "20 Years of Linux", after which Greg Kroah-Hartman will host a conversation with Linux creator Linus Torvalds.

LinuxCon NA 2011 Other confirmed speakers include HP CTO Phil McKinney who will talk about his company's Linux-based WebOS mobile operating system; Mark Charlebois, Director of Open Source Strategy at Qualcomm Innovation Center, who will talk about the role of Linux in mobile development; Eucalyptus Systems CEO and former MySQL CEO Marten Mickos; Ubuntu’s Technical Architect Allison Randal; and New York University Professor and award-wining author Clay Shirky.

The winner of the 20 years of Linux video contest – who will receive free air fare, hotel expenses and registration to attend one of the Linux Foundation's events – will also be announced at the conference. The full schedule of events is available on the LinuxCon NA 2011 web site.

Those interested in attending the conference are asked to register as soon as possible. Standard registration costs $500 through to 8 July. Late registration is $600 and student registration with a valid student ID is $100. A list of LinuxCon NA 2011 attendees is provided on the Foundation's Events web site.
