The Linux from Scratch (LFS) project has released version 6.6 of its building instructions for Linux. The project's manual contains about 300 pages of instructions on how to compile a custom Linux system from the Linux sources. The LFS project aims to help people understand how Linux works internally and to enable them to build compact, flexible and secure Linux distributions of their own.

Version 6.6 is based on Linux kernel version 2.6.32.8, gcc 4.4.3 and glibc version 2.11.1. The developers updated the GRUB boot manager and udev. The revised instructions also cover a number of security fixes and have been edited to improve the clarity and accuracy of the text. A complete list of the changes introduced since the previous version can be found in the project's comprehensive change log.
