Linux breaks one per cent
According to Net Application's Market Share service, Linux has achieved a one per cent market share of desktop, or client, operating systems.
Windows dominates the market with 87.9 per cent, followed by Mac at 9.73 per cent and then Linux at 1.02 per cent. At 0.55 per cent and 0.15 per cent respectively, the iPhone and iPod Touch come in fourth and fifth place. The Market Share data is compiled by sampling approximately 160 million visitors, per month, gathered from a network of customers who use HitsLink to get live web statistics for their sites.
