Linux Mint 13 KDE released
Two months after the first Cinnamon and MATE editions of Linux Mint 13 "Maya" arrived, Linux Mint lead developer Clement Lefebvre has announced the availability of a KDE edition of the project's popular Linux distribution. The new release includes version 4.8.4 of the KDE Software Compilation; this is the current stable release – KDE SC 4.9 is currently available as a second release candidate with the final version expected to arrive on 1 August.
Like the standard editions of the operating system, Linux Mint 13 KDE is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and incorporates a variety of changes and new features from that release. The KDE desktop seems very much unchanged from the upstream distribution without many changes beyond the desktop wallpaper. Improvements from Linux Mint 12 KDE include better power management, fixes and improvements in the Kwin window manager, the new KWallet interface KSecretService and miscellaneous improvements to several software packages included with the collection.
More details about the release, including a list of known problems, can be found on the New features in Linux Mint 13 KDE page and in the release notes. Linux Mint 13 KDE is available to download as a DVD ISO image for 32- and 64-bit systems from the project's site. The Xfce edition of Linux Mint 13 with Xfce 4.10 was published on Saturday 21 July.
