The Linux Foundation has announced LinuxCon, a new Linux Conference. The first LinuxCon will be held in Portland, Oregon, in September 2009. The event, which will be held annually, is aimed at Linux developers and users as well as suppliers of software and hardware. It will be modelled on the Linux Plumbers Conference, where Linux developers meet and talk about fundamental topics concerning the core components of modern Linux distributions. LinuxCon will run alongside the Linux Plumbers Conference, also held in Portland at the same time.

The schedule will be oriented towards presentations, keynote speeches, tutorials and the presentation of early-bird projects. Alongside this agenda, mini-summits will enable participants to exchange ideas about such topics as embedded Linux, system administration, Linux on the desktop, and Linux on mobile devices. The Foundation has hired Craig Ross, co-founder of the Ottawa Linux Symposium (OLS), to handle the organisation of the conference. He will join the Foundation as community relations manager.

The Linux Foundation also announced that the next Linux Kernel Summit will be held in Tokyo, October 18-20th 2009, sharing space with the Linux Foundation Tokyo Symposium.
