Linux Foundation logo Linux creator Linus Torvalds and kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman will be among those presenting at the Linux Foundation's first Korea Linux Forum. Aimed at bringing together Korean businesses and the Linux kernel community and developers, the non-profit organisation's new event will take place on 11 and 12 October, 2012 in Seoul, South Korea.

The Korea Linux Forum will be open for anyone to attend and is being sponsored by South Korean conglomerate Samsung, which joined the Linux Foundation as a Platinum member in early June. The Foundation says that it partnered with Samsung "to increase Linux development and collaboration from the talent pool in Korea and other countries in the Asia region".

As well as Torvalds and Kroah-Hartman, other confirmed keynote speakers include KiHo Kim, Head of Samsung's Software R&D Center, Google's Tejun Heo, and Dirk Hohndel, Intel’s Chief of Linux and Open Source Technologies. The event will include a variety of presentations and workshops on the Linux kernel, Android, and the Tizen mobile operating system, as well as embedded development. Those interested in submitting a proposal for presentations, panel discussions or tutorials can send a speaker biography and abstract to cfp@linuxfoundation.org; the deadline for submissions is 24 August.

"Korea is a hotbed of new Linux development, especially in the mobile and embedded areas," said Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin. Before the main event, the Linux Foundation will also be offering open source training courses on 9 and 10 October. Further information about the new event can be found on the Korea Linux Forum 2012 web site. Registration is now open and costs $300; an early bird price of $200 is available until 15 September.
