The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Linux, has announced the top five 2010 Linux.com Linux Gurus. Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs for The Linux Foundation, said that, “These five Gurus have helped Linux users around the globe by sharing their knowledge and being helpful moderators of a popular community-driven site, further increasing their profiles.”

Masen Marshall (MasenM), a full-time systems administrator at a US school district, was selected as this year's Ultimate Linux Guru for his contributions to the Linux.com community. As the Ultimate Linux Guru, Marshall has received a "fully loaded" Linux laptop that has been signed by Linux creator Linus Torvalds. Other winners include Kunal P.Bharati (kunal) who works as a web developer and system administrator, systems administrator and Pluriservice product manager Andrea Benini (ben), Matthew Fillpot (mfillpot), a Linux.com moderator and Development and Training Specialist, and Dennis Wiesmann (Emperor).

Each of the top five guru's will receive invitations to this year's 4th annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit taking place from the 14th to the 16th of April, 2010 in San Francisco, California. The gurus will also participate in the annual Linux.com Planning Meeting, which focuses on ongoing improvements to the site, and will receive digital Guru badges "to further market their skills to potential employers and demonstrate their status among peers".

The top gurus were chosen based on the total points they earned from the 16th of February, 2009, to the 15th of February 2010. More details about the Linux.com Linux Guru program, including “Guru” point values, can be found on the Linux.com site.
