Linux 2.6.28 Released
As expected, Linus "almost Santa" Torvalds announced the release of Linux 2.6.28 to the LKML in time for the holidays. The final changes made since release candidate 9 of 2.6.28, are mostly updates to DVB, AMD IOMMU, SCSI drivers and fixes to PCI hotplug issues. 2.6.28 sees the move of the Ext4 file system from development to stable status, as it moves forward for mainstream use.
Much work has been done on GPU handling, memory management and disk management, which promises speed increases, along with better scalability for large servers. For full details of the changes in 2.6.28, see the heise online UK feature Kernel Log: Higher and Further, The innovations of Linux 2.6.28.
