Linus Torvalds becomes US Citizen

Source: Linux Foundation In a discussion on the Linux Kernel Mailing List (LKML), Linus Torvalds leaked the fact the he became a US citizen last week. The Linux inventor grew up in Finland where he studied at the University of Helsinki. He moved to the US in 1997 to work for the chip developer Transmeta. For several years he has lived in Portland, Oregon, and receives an income as a Fellow of the Linux Foundation.

The LKML discussion then returned to the subject of making improvements in the process scheduler. The aim of the changes was to reduce waiting times and increase the responsiveness of systems, making them feel snappier. One of the changes under consideration has been evaluated and added to the main development branch. It should, therefore, be in October's expected release of version 2.6.36. The commit comment has background information on the problem and provides results from tests showing the patch as almost halving the maximum latency.
