LibreOffice skips to 3.6.0 release candidate 4

The LibreOffice developers have made LibreOffice 3.6.0 RC4, the latest pre-release version of the office suite, available, after having to skip a release candidate. The last release candidate was RC2, and examining the release notes shows that RC3 wasn't published. This was because the LibreOffice Windows build system failed and broke a number of Windows builds, making them unrunnable; a problem which was picked up by the LibreOffice Q&A teams before publication.

Another bug which stopped fresh installs of LibreOffice starting on Windows systems appears to be mostly fixed, but will still result in a silent termination of LibreOffice on first startup, after which it will start up correctly. Other fixes in the RC4 release include corrections to bugs in ODF importing, table handling, accessibility stability (Mac OS X), colour popups, vertical rulers (Mac OS X), progress bars (Mac OS X), text colour setting (Mac OS X), numbered bibliographies, spreadsheet row heights, and other issues.

Overall, version 3.6 will include a large number of new features and enhancements with improved performance and a cleaner user interface. Release candidates normally overwrite the existing LibreOffice installation, but the parallel installation option will allow them to be used alongside a stable LibreOffice installation.
