The Document Foundation has announced its first bug hunting session for version 3.5 of the open source LibreOffice office suite – to be held online on 28 and 29 December. On those days, the Quality Assurance (QA) team and some experienced developers will be available on the IRC channel #libreoffice (IRC link) from 8am to 10pm UTC and will accept bug reports not only via Bugzilla, usually the only option, but also by chat and email.

Participation is intended to be easy. Anyone who has the current beta version of LibreOffice 3.5 installed can log into the chat to report problems they've noticed while using the program. The LibreOffice project has also described a number of test cases that should be tried out before the final version is released. Whoever finds the most bugs and reports them using the normal method, via Bugzilla, will be crowned the "Bug Hunting Hero". Another bug-hunting session will offer a second chance at the title after the first release candidate is made available in mid-January.
