Launchy 2.5 adds Mac OS X support
Launchy developer Josh Karlin has announced the availability of version 2.5 of his cross-platform application launcher utility. The open source keystroke-driven launcher indexes applications, documents, files, folders and bookmarks, allowing users to open or launch them with just a few key presses on the keyboard. Additionally users can navigate to web sites or run Google, Wikipedia and Yahoo searches – both of which open the result in the default web browser.
In addition to several performance improvements, Launchy 2.5 is the first release to include support for Mac OS X and features the ability to launch more items and new shortcut keys. New controls have also been added, including Shift+tab or Shift+bkspc to delete a previous tab, Shift+Ctrl+Enter to launch in an elevated mode under Vista and Windows 7, and, when no current search text is entered, the down arrow shows the history. The default skin has now been built into the main executable should another skin not be found and skin creation has been simplified. Other changes include better behaviour on Linux, fixes for displaying icons and a system tray icon on Windows.
More details about the release can be found in the change log. Launchy 2.5 is available to download from SourceForge for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Launchy is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
