Kolab Systems logo Zurich-based Kolab Systems has announced the release of version 2.4 of the Kolab Server groupware solution. The update has a new web client based on Roundcube, a new web administration interface developed for Kolab 3.0, and it uses Z-Push to handle ActiveSync. Kolab Server 2.4 is a preview of version 3.0, which has been in the works for some time and is expected to arrive in the third quarter of this year.

The new version has also been modularised and is the first to be "natively packaged" via community package depots. The groupware solution can be installed with just a few commands on versions 5.x and 6.x of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as well as CentOS and Scientific Linux, both RHEL derivatives; in a blog post, Kolab Systems Architect provides instructions for installing Kolab 2.4 on CentOS 6.2. Packages for Debian are apparently still in the works, with the developers inviting contributors to help.

Further information about the new version can be found in the release announcement and in the updated documentation. The installation guide provides more details on installing and configuring the groupware.
