Zoom Knoppix 6.7.1 replaces OpenOffice.org with LibreOffice

Knoppix creator Klaus Knopper has released version 6.7.1 of his popular Live Linux distribution. This first point update to Knoppix 6.7.0 from early August includes a number of updates and replaces the open source OpenOffice.org office suite with version 3.4.3 of the LibreOffice community fork.

Knoppix 6.7.1 includes LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) as its default desktop and the Linux kernel has been updated from 2.6.39 to version 3.0.4. Package updates include Firefox 6.0.2 and Chromium 13.0.782.220 (DVD version only).

Other changes include a new boot option for mounting the compressed file system directly from an iso file, experimental support for the Nouveau modules for NVIDIA graphics cards and bug fix updates to ADRIANE (Audio Desktop Reference Implementation and Networking Environment). The boot process has also been modified to improve booting in VirtualBox and the DVD version includes an optional 64-bit kernel via the "knoppix64" boot option.

More details about the update to the Debain-based live distribution can be found in the release notes. Knoppix 6.7.1 is available to download from one of the project's mirrors; as usual there are English and German versions for CD or DVD. Knoppix is released under the GPL.
