Blue Systems logo KDE developer Martin Gräßlin has announced that he will be joining Blue Systems to continue his work on KWin window manager for the KDE Plasma Desktop full time. The developer says that soon after joining the KWin development team nearly five years ago, he realised that the project would eventually need at least one full time developer. "With the upcoming required changes like Qt 5 and Wayland the need for developers is increasing," noted Gräßlin.

Blue Systems is a German firm that has also partnered with and sponsored other KDE projects and distributions that use KDE as their default desktop. In April, it was announced that the company would take over sponsorship of Kubuntu, the KDE derivative of Ubuntu, from Canonical with the start of the 12.10 development cycle and would pay developer Jonathan Riddell to continue full time work on the distribution. The company has also worked with Linux Mint and Netrunner and has paid developers to work on those projects.

"I want to thank Blue Systems for this great opportunity and also for all the other sponsored work in the KDE community," added Gräßlin, who has been the KWin Maintainer since 2010 and also works on the KDE Plasma Compositor. The developer will start working for Blue Systems from January.
