KOffice The KOffice developers have announced the release of the second beta of version 2.1 of their open source office suite. KOffice is composed of the KWord word processor, KSpread spread sheet, KPresenter presentation manager, KPlato project management, Karbon vector graphics editor and Krita, a raster graphics editor. The Beta 2 release includes a number of bug fixes, new features and performance improvements.

The latest development release features updated Microsoft Office import filters, which include new formatting features, for Word and PowerPoint files and fixes several typo and translation related issues. Other improvements include changes to the Connection tool and to the included Formula, Chart, Text and Image shapes. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical machines is not advised. The developers ask users to participate in the bugfixing process by reporting any issues that they find, especially those that "cause data loss or incompatibilities with other office suites".

More details about the release can be found in the change log and the release announcement. Packaged binary versions of KOffice 2.1 Beta 2 are available to download. The final version of KOffice 2.1 is expected to be released in October.

KOffice is licensed under LGPL 2+ and under the GPL.
