KDE wallpaper contest announced

KDE Community member Nuno Pinheiro, a graphic artist and UI designer best known for his work on the Oxygen Project, has announced the launch of a new contest to create the next default wallpaper for KDE 4.8 and 4.9. Pinheiro, who has created a number of past wallpapers for the KDE desktop, says that he wanted to see if someone else could create "something better" for the upcoming KDE releases.

Wallpaper proposals must have "a defining element that can be used in KDE branding" and photos will be accepted. Submissions must be at least 1920x1200 pixels in size; other screen ratios are not required but will earn their submitters "bonus points". The deadline for submissions is 4 December 2011, after which three finalists will be chosen by Pinheiro, Lydia Pintscher and Ingo Malchow – only one will become the default wallpaper.
