KDE logo One month after version 4.9 of the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC) arrived, the KDE Community has released the first of the monthly stabilisation updates to its desktop and software suite. As usual with these types of updates, KDE SC 4.9.1 improves the translations for many applications and fixes numerous bugs, some of which can cause KDE applications to crash.

According to the developers, the most significant improvements were made to the Kontact personal information management (PIM) suite and the Dolphin file manager. Other fixes across KDE are also said to improve its overall performance. As the release only contains fixes and translation updates, the update is recommended for users running all earlier versions of KDE.

Further information about the update is provided in the release announcement. KDE SC 4.9.1 source code download links and details of how to obtain binary packages can be found on the KDE SC 4.9.1 Info Page. KDE is licensed under a combination of the LGPLv2.1, BSD, MIT and X11 licences for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications.

Update 07-09-12: The project has also published a release schedule for KDE SC 4.10, its next major update. The KDE developers plan to release a beta in November, which will be followed by a second beta and two release candidates. The final version is expected to arrive on 23 January. Planned features include a new KCM module and plasmoid applet for the print manager.
