KDE SC 4.5.1 released with various bug fixes

KDE Logo The KDE Project release team has announced the arrival of version 4.5.1 of the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC), the first point update to the latest major release of the popular Linux and Unix desktop. According to the developers, the maintenance release of the free open source K Desktop Environment (KDE) includes a variety of translation updates and bug fixes for the the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Platform.

The first in a series of monthly service updates, KDE SC 4.5.1, code named "Cronjob", fixes several bugs in KDE core, improving the overall stability of the platform, and provides more ergonomic panel applet positioning inside Plasma workspaces. Other changes include listing UPnP network devices/services under KIO slave, Weather applet network update reconnection fixes and more configurationability for the KWin window manager. The developers advise all users to upgrade.

The next bug fix update, KDE SC 4.5.2, is scheduled to be released on the 30th of September. The next major release, version 4.6.0, is expected to arrive on the 26th of January, 2011.

Source packages for self-compilation and binary packages for various Linux distributions are available to download from the project's website. KDE is licensed under a combination of the LGPLv2, BSD, MIT and X11 licences for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications.
