The KDE developers have released version 4.2.1 (code-named "Cream") of the open source Linux and Unix desktop environment. Version 4.2.1 is the first translation and service release of KDE 4.2 and includes a number of bug fixes in almost every area of the desktop environment. Improvements have also been made in Okular, the document viewer, Kopete, the instant messaging client, in KMail and in the KHTML component.

The update fixes the parsing of dates when using a two-digit year format in kdecore, klauncher no longer hangs when kdeinit4 dies and klauncher support has been repaired for unique applications like konsole. A debugger core crash on syntax errors has been fixed in kjs and khtml includes several improvements and optimisations, along with the usual bug fixes.

More details can be found in the changelog. KDE 4.2.1 source code and pre-compiled packages are available to download – as are build and installation instructions.
