The KDE developers have released version 4.2.2 (code-named "Cano") of the open source Linux and Unix desktop environment. Version 4.2.2 comes less than one month after the 4.2.1 release and includes numerous bug fixes, performance improvements and updated translations.

Stability improvements have been made in application launcher KRunner, with additional features, including built in search and calculator functions. Synchronising cached IMAP email accounts in KMail is now faster and changes to how emails are displayed makes reading mail a smoother experience for users. Text rendering has been optimised and support for CSS selectors has been improved in KHTML.

More details can be found in the change log. KDE 4.2.2 source code and pre-compiled packages are available to download – as are build and installation instructions. KDE 4.3, the next major release, is expected to arrive this summer.
